Notes on Poem.
In the Buddhist tradition, ‘emptiness’ (śūnyatā) refers to all phenomena, including the belief in a self. Emptiness reveals a lack of any inherent or seperatation of one ‘thing’ from another.
For example, ‘the West’ lacks any kind of self-existence, thus utterly dependent on thoughts, beliefs, claims, views and the non-West.
‘The West’ reveals a concept, insubstantial and unreliable.

You carve out the nation. from dark recess within. the fragmented mind. you line the nation state blood of orphaned children and litany of small graves in cemetaries of fallen to confirm narrow mind imprisoned in nation state. Wrapped up yourselves in the thickskinned flag like egyptian mummies tied up in bandaged self with shreds of memory flag of coloured cloth triumph of thoughts no more, no less others shape view too red of blood white of surrender blue of blues of despair fiction of fictions oh, emptiness of the flag. English, not English. royals, not royals birth and death govern highness, kings, queens, hangers-on, empty titles hang on words dna of mixed stock rowed by boat from calais for bedrooms of windsor* blue blood is never blue dressed for public rituals fanfare, fanciful thinking Leaders preach prosperity poverty of bankrupt minds spellbound with self legacy policies to persecute we have no choice they claim ears blocked with hardened wax ‘self-existence’ comes first. Show where nations abide fields, deserts. rivers and mountain tops and valleys? boundaries of conflict construction of think-tanks oh, emptiness of nations Daily deportation of compassion from minds drugged on self-interest on addiction to profit shutdown of intelligence turn up global thermostat close to the heat of hell oh, the emptiness of business as usual. How can delusion end delusion?
