Title:
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE UPLIFTING EXPERIENCE
Outline:
We acknowledge the widespread vulnerabilities for humans, creatures and the natural world.
The hearts of some become weighed down with personal, social and global issues.
Yet, dukkha (Pali word for suffering) does not have the inherent power to stop sukkha (happiness) breaking through.
During my years (1970-1976) as Buddhist monk, I made the train journey from southern Thailand to Bangkok, once a year, to renew my monk’s ‘passport.’ While there, an article appeared in the Bangkok Post in their Sunday issue of 5 March 1972. I kept the cutting and much more. 50 years later, Thailand remains a Mecca for meditation with a considerable expansion of meditation in the West.
Upliftment of the human spirit reveals the power of transcendence.
Outdoors in open spaces and forests often have a great potential for such upliftment.
We will explore the joys that keep our spirit alive.
We will reflect on examples of upliftment in our lives in the face of apparent adversity.
