You won’t find the Buddha claiming mindfulness means moment to moment attention. He does not carry expecations we should try to be mindful all the time.
I noticed "space" in which several objects appear. At first the variety of objects caught my attention. After a little while, there was a softening of the focus from the individual items.
The mind did not find an answer to your question. It relaxed and dropped the intention / desire to find an answer.
Suddenly, the background that contains all what was being seen was perceived.
This reminds me of the spiritual seeking. As long as the mind is searching, what is already here, can not be realized/acknowledged.
The shallower mind wants to tell stories about where the items came from and why they are here. The deep just recognises patterns of dependent arising.
The quietude of items,unimpressed by categories of tidyness and messyness.
A reminder to us humans of the ever present potential for stillness.
The palpable ease of the author with dust,scratches and various stages of decay. The honesty and transparency a reminder of the possibility of freedom in the midst of conditioning.
The big word LOVE and the impression it leaves behind. The small stamp a reminder of the difference small things can make when we allow them to.
The non-harrassing of that which is unproblematic as an example of the ending of kamma.
The messy desk pointing to our potential to be free,and to the fact that there is nothing ordinary about this human life.
I downloaded the image so I could look at it more carefully. I I downloaded the image so I could look at it more carefully. I then realised it would make a good jigsaw puzzle. There is an interesting variety of objects and a tangle of wires which would take some time to put together, if the image were split into pieces and converted to a jigsaw puzzle. I noticed my initial judgement: "what a mess" vanished. My irritation at the mess also vanished. Instead I noticed the individual objects and how they related to one another. There is a sense of attention to detail and cognitive satisfaction if one completes a jigsaw puzzle of a painting by Van Gogh or Picasso. One gets to know the image much more intimately. But I noticed the same process happen here!

I’m a messy person, so I don’t see that as a mess.
I see the tools of a communicator. I see ideas and connections.
The thing that stands out for me is the red clothes peg; I can relate. Those things end up on my desk too!
