Be aware of such states of state of mind as:
calm or restless,
focused or wandering,
alert or dull,
clear seeing or indulging in stories and fantasies.
giving or taking
generous or greedy
kindness or negativity
fearless or fearful
equanimous or reactive
inner peace or agitated
Witness the state of mind rising, staying and passing in consciousness.
Witness a thought, opinion or judgement just as that.
Witness the feelings, obvious or absent, with thoughts.
Know healthy feelings/thoughts and unhealthy/feelings/thoughts.
See states of mind as belonging to a changing process with no lasting substance.
Be mindful of any impressions left from a state of mind
See variety of feeling tone/emotions/experiences as the opportunity for insight and realization.
Benefits
A state of mind usually consists of feelings, thoughts, energy, perceptions and views. States of mind are often described as positive or negative.
Clarity of our state of mind contributes to developing healthy states of mind and changing unhealthy states of mind.
A state of mind can show a shallow condition or a depth.
Suffering and happiness can emerge from the deep.
To recognise a state of mind as a state of mind reduces clinging to and reaction against.
States of mind arise and pass due to conditions that support the state of mind.
Such mind states can reveal an expansive awareness or a contracted condition.
