Four Inner Lineages of the Buddha. Teachings/Practices. Four Zoom Teachings from Saturday February 17...
1. Contentment. 2. Development. 3. Letting Go and 4. Mindful Understanding
In a typical, free spirited way, the Buddha gave a fresh interpretation to classical religious/spiritual language.
For example, lineage usually refers to a tradition of teachers/masters, teachings or forms of practice with a history. Knowledge/devotion/practices pass from one generation to another. Such conventional lineages may have become adulterated in the course of time, produce dogma, unhealthy tendencies and sectarian views.
The Buddha did not concern himself with any such historical lineage. Instead he referred to four expressions of an inner lineage of the individual or group - contentment, development, letting go and mindful understanding. (Numerical Discourses of the Buddha.. Book of Four 28(8).
He stated these four noble lineages are “primal, of long standing, traditional, ancient and unadulterated and will not be adulterated in the present or future. The Buddha added his four lineages will “not be repudiated by wise ascetics and Brahmins (those born to uphold Brahma - God).” He then goes into some detail with regard to the each of his four lineages.
All four lineages can apply to an individual or group, spiritual, religious or otherwise.
In this series of four sessions, we will explore the four themes and their application to daily life. A guided meditation, talk and Q&A.
Your registration gives direct support to daily life expenses. If you wish, you can attend the first session as a guest and then cover the registration cost for the remaining three sessions.
We look forward to seeing you.
Ah, how wonderfully this fits into some questionning and unrest going on inside of me with regard to 'belonging to a tradition/method of practice/being acknowledged by'!
The Buddha is wonderful indeed. And so are the teachers.
Thank you, Christopher, for inspiration always!
