Mindfulness serves as a Stepping Stone, Here are five areas
Mindfulness reveals a change moving towards a depth of clarity, wisdom and to realise the fullness of our humanity.
Values
Mindfulness and meditation can start and develop questions of what matters to us. Let us not be afraid to ask ourselves about what we are doing with our life. Have we placed value on material things and taking it off what is of lasting value? Mindfulness provides a stepping stone. This might include an inquiry into purpose, empathy, respect, integrity, starting meaningful change, inner and outer, service to others, and an active vision.
Ethics
Ethics shows itself in relationship to people, animals and the environment. Apply ethics explicitly rather than let ethics go unmentioned. Mindfulness serves as a stepping stone to living with clarity, compassion and treating others as one wishes to be treated. Ethics makes obvious recognition of the needs of others, those suffering hardship, examines use of resources, animal welfare, environmental exploitation and more.
Lifestyle
Let us inquire into changes in lifestyle where desires to impress others and feel good about oneself gives license to extravagance, attention seeking and displays of self-importance.
What changes do you need to make? It is not enough to apply certain mindfulness methods and techniques to resolve stress. Mindfulness of lifestyle offers a stepping stone to look into causes of such behaviour and consequences near and far.
Science
Science and neuroscience engage in research into mindfulness/meditation and its relationship to the brain. Research shows the benefits of mindfulness/meditation to brain function. Application of mindfulness has a much bigger remit than neurology.
With a legitimate view, science often gives emphasis to laboratory experiments, research in the field, hypothesis and applied theory. Such an approach to life seems suitable for those with developed cognition and can intellectually grasp meaning of concepts. Mindfulness serves as a stepping stone to other ways of experiencing, viewing and understanding reality that awaken the mind.
Spirituality
The mind can obsess around roles, personal success, income and possessions. Theoretical views and scientific information can flood the mind with concepts. Mindfulness/meditation serves as a stepping stone to becoming receptive to the sense of the spiritual – in nature, religion, the arts, meditation, the infinite and liberating/empowering realisations.
