Dart Radio. Radio Show, 60 minutes with six songs. DJ invites Christopher to be a guest
Broadcast on 3 September 2025
Totnes and surrounding region radio show host, Alex Marsh has a weekly guest who appears on his programme available for listeners in the Totnes region of South Devon, England. Show includes eight songs the guest chooses.
Alex kindly invited me to be his guest again on 3 September 2025. He has had around 330 guests over the years. I duly sent to him my list of eight songs and mentioned in the show a sentence or two why I appreciated the lyrics of each song.
Alex asked me about changes in my life. Content included responses during covid period, my grandaughter who lives with me, Totnes support for Gaza, a small bell in the studio and its reminder of a bomb in Thailand in 1973 during my years as a Buddhist monk, appreciation for Aurora, Norwegian singer, who Nshorna (my daughter) strongly recommended.
Show had time to to play six songs of the eight.
Alex refers to Vire Island in Totnes. This small island on edge of Totnes and River Dart gets a reference, a magical world with a recording of birds etc. BBC national radio has a similar show Desert Island Discs, started in 1942. Guests provide songs. DJ invites guest to name an item they would like to take with them if living alone on an island.
Alex asked me to name my item. I told him my choice of an item to take with me to a deserted island.

Eight links to Youtube include lyrics to the song.
Here are the Six Songs played on the show, and the two we did not have time to play. Six of the eight songs were released since 2008.
1. Apocalypse – Cigarettes after Sex: 2017
2. Learning to Fly – Tom Petty: 1991
3. Hero of War – Rise Against: 2008
4. Perfect Day – Lou Reed: 1972
5. Saturn – Sleeping at Last: 2014
6. Wasting My Young Years – London Grammar: 2013
7. The Seed – Aurora: 2019 (Enviromental song. Punchline: You can’t eat money.
I wrote a poem about The Seed by Aurora. The poem follows on from her song.
8. Video Games – Lana Del Rey: 2011. Woman in love with a guy, even though he spend his time playing video games. More than three billion views on Youtube and voted the best song of the decade between 2011 and and 2021.
A line of a song can reveal a transormative truth.
Do respond to the lyrics as much as to the music.
Love
Christopher
